EUMeTrain is preparing the 4th edition of the Marine Course. The course will be conducted online and in asynchronous mode. A Moodle platform will be used for this purpose. The course is primarily designed for marine forecasters, but other meteorologists are invited to participate.
The course aims to improve the quality of marine safety warnings and nowcasting in Europe through better use of satellite and model data. It will be run between March 26th and May 17th, 2019.
The 2019 course will cover the following topics
- Identification of potentially dangerous conditions over the ocean
- Scatterometers and Altimeter products – advantages and limitations
- Forecasting extreme weather conditions
- Forecasting ocean waves
The 4th EUMeTrain Marine Course will be supported by experts from KNMI, ECMWF, NOAA and EUMETSAT.
In the 2019 edition, students will be offered the possibility to attend a 1-week follow up classroom course in Lisbon organized jointly by EUMETSAT and IPMA (Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere), tentatively scheduled for 24 to 28 June 2019 and 2 to 6 December 2019.
