Forecasting

GIE EUMETNET runs 6 Forecasting Programmes:

C-SRNWP
(Coordination - Short Range Numerical Weather Prediction)

This Programme ensures coordination between the five European limited area modelling consortia which are the main projects carrying out research and development on regional numerical weather prediction in Europe. The Programme Manager is Gergely Bölöni from the OMSZ.

SRNWP Verification The main objective of this Programme is to deliver a meaningful intercomparison of operational deterministic forecasts from a “reference version” of each of the four consortia models. The Programme Manager is Clive Wilson from the UKMO.
SRNWP Interoperability The aim of this Programme is to define a standard format for exchanging model data between consortia and deliver software to convert NMHS NWP model data to and from the standard format. The Programme Manager is Rachel North from the UKMO.

EMMA
(European Multi-services Meteorological Awareness)
The EMMA Programme has developed a website: www.meteoalarm.eu which provides relevant information needed to prepare for extreme weather expected to occur somewhere over Europe. The Programme Manager is Michael Staudinger from the ZAMG.

SatRep
(Satellite Report)
This Programme called SatRep (comprised of the words Satellite and Report) uses a method of deriving a thorough view of the actual weather using both satellite imagery and model data. The Programme Manager is Jarno Schipper from the ZAMG.
Eumetcal
(European Meteorological Computer Assisted Learning)
This Programme's aim is to facilitate cooperation through the provision of training in Meteorology, the exchange and delivery of online material, the creation of lessons, and help on CAL (Computer Assisted Learning) techniques. The Programme Manager is Dr Tero Siili from the FMI.
