Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) 1st General Assembly

2017/03/06 - 2017/03/12

0 Comments

The Copernicus Climate Change Service is holding its inaugural General Assembly over five days, 6 – 10 March 2017 in Toulouse, France, for providers, users and potential users alike.

6 and 10 March will offer the possibility for participants to network and organise side meetings, and 7-9 March will be dedicated to the plenary assembly.

The General Assembly will:

provide updates on the latest developments to the service;
gather and share user requirements and feedback on the service so far and its various proof-of-concept activities;
share the knowledge and experience of the current C3S providers across the various components of the Service;
facilitate networking and brainstorming sessions for the climate change community in the context of an operational C3S.

Copernicus Symposium on Climate Services for the Energy Sector

2017/02/22 - 2017/02/23

0 Comments

The symposium aims to bring together climate and energy scientists, energy industry practitioners and public decision makers to present new possibilities in climate predictions, discuss new ideas and better shape future public C3S products for the energy sector. It is also a great occasion to meet other experts in energy and climate during the several discussions and other networking opportunities. The symposium is a joint event organised by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and its energy proof-of-concept projects, the European Climatic Energy Mixes (ECEM) and the CLIM4ENERGY projects.

Seasonal predictions and long-term projections of climate, along with uncertainty estimates, are now made possible thanks to remarkable progress in climate science. The use of accurate climate information is key to the energy sector as it needs to tackle issues related to climate variability and change for a robust planning of growing renewable energy, more diverse energy markets and management of changing risks.

The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) funded by the European Commission and operated by the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts aims at delivering cutting-edge climate and sectoral information for the society facing climate change adaptation and mitigation. It is currently developing several demonstration products for the energy sector.

97th AMS Annual Meeting

2017/01/22 - 2017/01/26

With the theme “Observations Lead the Way,” the 2017 AMS Annual Meeting unifies the Society’s vision of where the field is right now, and how it will advance in the future. Today’s models simulate and predict on spatial and temporal scales at much higher resolution than the databases used to initialize them. The greater need for advances has always gone back and forth between the observation portfolio or model sophistication, but right now observations are the greatest need.
