UNIDART (Uniform Data Request Interface)

The UNIDART concept was aimed at the development of an information system based on Internet technologies offering uniform access to all kinds of meteorological data and products including climatological data sets. The first phase of the Programme has been completed.

The objectives of this first phase were :
  • to define a set of requirements,
  • to make a feasibility assessment,
  • to estimate the costs for an implementation of UNIDART.

The second phase was decided at the end of 2002 to implement a prototype of UNIDART. The prototype focused on the requirements of the ECSN Programme of EUMETNET and addressed the requirements set by WMO/CBS for the future WMO Information System (in particular the metadata standard).
The Deutscher Wetterdienst was the Responsible Member for the project, as the leader of a consortium including KNMI and Met Office.
The Programme Manager was Dr. Jürgen Seib.
The UNIDART project ended in December 2006..
