The first EUMETNET Programme in the field of forecasting was called TIPS (TAF Interactive Production System) where TAF stands for Terminal Area Forecast). This programme ended in October 2001. Its objective was to develop tools for semi-automatic production of the standard aviation forecast for airports, ie to facilitate and make more efficient the work of forecasters.
Since the 1st January 1999, EUMETNET provides a Coordinator for the SRNWP (Short Range Numerical Weather Prediction) Group. Representatives of the NWP branches of European National Meteorological Services meet in this group on a yearly basis to organise co-operative activities in development of numerical atmospheric models.
EMMA (started 1st October 2002) is a programme to make available in 2004 a graphical "meteorological awareness" display of Europe. Areas on the European territories will be colour coded according to the level of meteorological danger expected in the next 24 hours.
