| The Eumetcal programme started in 2001 as an extension of the EU FP4 meteorological
computer assisted learning project titled EuroMET. The initial three-year
programme was continued by the second phase from 2004 to 2007. The third
Eumetcal programme phase will continue and further develop European training
cooperation in the field of meteorology until June 2012. The tasks of Eumetcal have significantly evolved from system maintenance into a true collaboration between member institutions in training activities. Eumetcal is today the European Virtual Organisation for Meteorological Training and its objectives are: 1. To serve as the European virtual training organisation, responding to the training needs of EUMETNET NMSs and providing a forum for the creation and exchange of training resources covering the whole field of meteorology and related environmental topics. 2. To provide a mechanism whereby European NMSs collaborate to enhance their training capabilities on a long term basis. 3. Keeping in mind evolving technologies used for education and training, to ensure that the training requirements of European NMSs are met long term. The core results of Eumetcal have been the development of an extensive virtual training library, training workshops, interactive learning modules and coordination of blended learning courses in meteorology. The activities of Eumetcal connect training professionals from all member countries and promote the exchange of best practices and training material. For more information and access to all Eumetcal resources, you can visite the Eumetcal website at http://www.eumetcal.org The Responsible Member of Eumetcal is the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
